Yin Yoga
A nourishing practice to soothe your body, mind and spirit
Class Description
Yin Yoga is a specific style of functional yoga where we use poses, or shapes to find sensation in specific target areas, and we hold these shapes in stillness for longer periods of time that a typical yang style of yoga practice. Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as the ligaments, bones, fascia and even the joints of the body that normally are not exercised much in a yang asana practice. The long held passive stretches of a yin practice can be quiet challenging due to the duration of the poses. We remain in the postures generally from 2 minutes up to 10 minutes. In this stillness and quiet we can journey inwards, softening into the wisdom of our body, as we allow our mind to slow down. Yin yoga is not the same as restorative yoga as we are aiming to stress the tissues, and to find a level of discomfort that we are comfortable to maintain in stillness and with gentle breathing. Suitable for almost everyone, though if you are injured, please allow yourself time to recover and check with your doctor or physio if the practice is suitable. Not recommended if you are pregnant.
